Summer has finally arrived

Summer has finally arrived, and trust me I know about it. I'm so fair skinned I not only get sunburn, I get moon burn! Don't get me wrong I love the sun I just wish I didn't burn quicker than a match. I don't tan either, I just burn, go red, then go back to normal. It's so annoying!

After all the rain we've had recently though it makes a nice change to be able to sit outside at lunch time or goto a beer garden to relax.

However it does have a downside, my bedroom is south facing, so it gets a lot of sun. I came home on wednesday to find the temperature in my bedroom was 28 degrees C, with my blinds closed and everything. I'm used to my room getting hot, with my TV, computer & games consoles it can get pretty warm, but this was too much.

I decided enough was enough and decided to research portable Air Conditioning units, I was expecting them to be around £500 but was surprised they were closer to the £250 mark. I did some research and although I was dubious to how much they would cool a room down I went for it.

I've had it 4 days now and i'm really impressed. It can bring my room down from 28 degrees to 21 degrees in about 3 hours, but as soon as you have it switched on you start to notice the difference. I'll admit that it is slightly loud, this is because it has a compressor doing the cooling, however once you've had it on a couple of hours you can turn it off to sleep. The other annoying thing is that it needs to be close to a window for the exhaust pipe.

The pros massively outweigh the cons though, walking into a cold, fresh room is bliss compared to a hot and sticky one. Also its too soon to tell how much its costing electricity wise, I probably don't want to know.

If your hot though and have considered getting one, I highly recommend it, they are a million times better than a fan.
